Today I am ready to share the other 5 pieces of advice on color matching for clothes that I usually try to follow. Along with the tips will also show you 5 more favourite combinations. So let’s get started:
6. Don’t match cold with cold colors:
Just like in advice No 1 from the previous post where we talked that warm colors should not be put together – it’s pretty much the same with the cold tones. Can you imagine purple and blue together or green and purple – it just won’t fit. Probably you’ve heard that whenever we want to impress and be noticed we have to choose clothes in warm colors as they are sexy and provocative. But still – we can’t put too much red or orange, something in neutral to keep the balance should be considered. On the other side the cold colors usually make us feel relaxed, so especially if you are going to work, you don’t want to feel too relaxed, do you?
Speaking about cold colors, I’ve decided to show you a nice outfit combining purple:
Price: $24.99 Price: $9.99
Again I’ve matched purple with neutral color, just like with the red and orange in the previous post. This sexy and trendy dress is from DH Styles new collection. The leggings are suggestion from Tilly’s as you may think the dress is too short. That’s the perfect club apparel – hot and sassy. Especially the back of the dress… And if you choose to wear it with black leggings you will feel sexy and comfortable at the same time. The accessories – I think it’s clear – black heels and purse.
7. Choose your make-up in the matching color:
When it comes to make-up I’ve heard many times people saying it’s not that important to match it with the colors of the clothes. It’s more important to match your eyes and face. Well… I don’t agree completely. I think it looks nice and stylish if you put an eye color that is matching the top you are wearing. That highlights your style and taste even more.
And as an addition to advice No 7 on color matching for clothes I’ve chosen again my favorite cold color + brown:

Price: $22.99 Price: $24.99
This trendy satin blue tunic can be found on DHStyles.com and the skinny brown jeans are from Charlotte Russe. This outfit fits accessories in both colors – you can make either the blue or the brown dominant by choosing purse, shoes and some cute bracelet or earrings in one of these colors. If I have to give an advice on the tones of the make-up I would pick up blue eye color and very light pink lip stick.
8. Use accessories in matching colors:
I’ve already talked about the colors of the shoes and purse. This time by accessories I mean bracelets, necklaces, earrings, hats, scarves, hairpins. This advice can be of a help only for people who just like me prefer to buy nice colorful and cheap jewelry. If you have only gold/silver jewelry or diamonds, you don’t need matching tips as they basically fit everything. However if you go more for the trendy and bright than for the sophisticated and pricey look, you may want to match the accessories with your clothes. For example there is a few colors that I love wearing – blue, green, black and white and I have earrings in all these colors plus some necklaces and bracelets. I’ve just started wearing pink clothes, so I am planning on buying accessories in this color too. Of course I have all kind of silver jewelry to use it as neutral in case I am not dressed in blue, green or black. Also speaking about accessories, you may want to try and see how this is going to affect your style – my favourite addition lately to my outfits are hats, in the matching color of course. And people make me compliments all the time how well it looks when a hat is included to the outfit. So try it – in Target you can find different color hats for only $10.00.
Outfit No 8 is a very sunny combination – green + yellow:

Price: $22.99 Price: $24.97
I wanted to show you this trendy top from the DH Styles for a long time as I think it’s very summer appropriate and now I can match it with these bright yellow jeans from Tilly’s. The top gives you an idea to put on some black sandals and bag as who wants to wear yellow shoes? Maybe green, but yellow?!? As for the accessories I prefer green, but if you like yellow more – go for it – you will get one very sunny look
9. Organize your closet by color and style:
If it is hard for you to decide if that top matches this pants or if that shirt will go well with this skirt, maybe organizing your closet by color will help a little. Put all your colorful clothes on one side and all neutral on the other. For me it’s useful to separate also by style and purpose. For example all my clothes for work are at one side, the ones for going out at the other, the lounge wear is also at a different place and the fitness apparel at forth. That just helps me to choose easier according to the occasion and then I just have to match the colors. And whenever you can’t decide what to put on with red or purple or green – remember the neutral colors always work – no mistakes are possible there.
Look No 9 matches orange + grey:

Price: $23.99 Price: $25.97
This sweetheart top is from the DH Styles favorites. I think orange just like pink matches grey perfectly and looks very cute. These ROXY jeans I found at Tilly’s.com. The outfit will be best completed with some silver heels and purse and also silver accessories.
10. Colorful clothes to be matched with neutral:
Whenever you wear something that is very colorful and you can’t decide what’s the dominant color, you should match with neutral. There are some tops which are very colored, but you can clearly see the dominant tone, e.g. pink or green or blue. Then you can choose bottom in that color and neutral accessories or the other way around. However if the dress is super colored, to avoid looking too ornate better choose everything else in neutral tones.
The last suggestion was chosen to prove advice No 10 on color matching for clothes: colorful + neutral

Price: $21.99 Price: $25.97
I found this tattoo tank top at DH Styles new arrivals section and decided it’s a good example of a colored dress. Well you may say that green is dominant and we can match with some green pants, but how are you going to find exactly that shade of green? Because if it is a different shade, it will look overdressed. That’s why – put on this white ROXY jeans from Tilly’s and you can’t go wrong. Silver or white accessories will work perfectly.
This was the second part of my 10 pieces of advice on color matching for clothing. I hope you will find useful at least one of these tips. If you want to read the first 5 check out: “Need advice on color matching for clothing? – Heres top 10 tips -part 1“

does navy blue and white skirt and black shoes go
to me the perfect combination will be with white shoes. I have navy & white dress and usually pair it with white shoes, but sometimes I also put on black sandals. Black goes with everything, just be careful not to make the outfit too dark…
Some of the pictures are not showing correctly but, the web site still looks great. I’ve been coming to this blog for a few weeks now and i’m very impressed with the content. What is the RSS address?

Hi Aoife,
Mint green is super trendy for spring! I love it paired with light yellow, also pink, light gray, purple. Pretty much lighter colors. I wouldn’t wear it with black or dark hues. You can also check our Outfit Stylist for more outfit matching ideas. Thanks for stopping by!
